Stage 1 vs Stage 2
Stage 1 and Stage 2 are useful terms, but they only make sense when hardware, diagnostics and safety margins are considered together.
Stage 1 uses standard hardware
Stage 1 tuning is designed for original hardware. The calibration stays within sensible limits for the factory turbo, cooling, clutch or gearbox.
For many daily cars it is the best balance between performance, comfort and reliability.
Stage 2 needs supporting hardware
Stage 2 usually requires upgraded or modified hardware. Without the correct supporting parts, a Stage 2 file can add unnecessary risk.
Logging and temperature checks are important before the calibration is finalised.
Not every car should be Stage 2
Mileage, maintenance, ECU version, gearbox limits and fuel quality all matter. Honest advice is better than aggressive numbers.
Use the Power Catalog as a starting point
The catalog gives an indication for Stage 1, Stage 2 and sometimes Stage 3+. Final advice is always vehicle-specific.
